Avail - LP Discog

Avail:
Satiate, Dixie, 4AM Friday,
Over the James, One Wrench, Front Porch Stories,
Fall of Richmond

Possibly the greatest hardcore punk band of all time, Avail took over the world in the the early 90s with the release of the 7" "Attempt to Regress" which was the first Avail album to feature Tim Barry on vocals. Smart, brash, honest and simple. Avail showed the world that hardcore wasnt as cut and dry as it seemed. To quote my favorite zine of all time, Rumpshaker, "Avail looked more like guys that would fix your busted alternator at some middle of no where service station". Posted above is every Avail studio full length and the Fall of Richmond split (which i included because of the fantastic alternate version of Lombardy St.) I hope that if you have never heard this band that you give these albums a listen. Virginia Hardcore at its finest.

Edgewise - Silent Rage

Edgewise - Silent Rage

One of the more underrated hardcore albums from the late 80's/early 90's. 8 VERY aggressive tracks that, very discretely, influenced a lot of heavier bands that came after them. I highly recommend this album for anyone that has that "dont forget your roots" in them and is trying to bone up on their hardcore history. I believe a member of this band runs Harvcore now? i could be wrong.

Spirit Animal - Real

Spirit Animal - Real

The newest demo to come out of RVA. Richmond is a hot bed for hardcore and every year a slew of new bands show up and they always exceed expectation. Spirit Animal is no exception. This is probably one of the most creative and smart demos i have ever heard. From start to finish this demo is nearly perfect. Heavy, Groovy, Riffy, and Real. Check this out if you have a brain.

Buried at Sea - Ghost

For Kawrence and Lerrick:

Buried at Sea - Ghost

(zound out)

Desolate, Empty, Depressed, Scared and Hopeless are the 5 words that describe the emotions i felt the first time i listed to this song alone in my room at 4 AM. Clocking in at over 30 minutes this album (just one song) is a long emotional roller coaster that only has about 5 lines of lyrics. If you like drone/doom metal and you have never heard this, its highly suggested. Probably the heaviest band that ever existed.
